What’s with the head thing?

I used to make a lot of videos with my friends when I was a kid (I guess I still do: here and here) and sometimes we did things that we were conceptually cool but turned out quite poorly.

So maybe you get why I’m showing you this.  The video below is from Trinity (MA) University’s baseball team.  I don’t quite understand why every single player on the team has to turn their head from somewhere else towards the camera.  I’m confused.  ONE OF YOU IS GOING TO STRAIN A NECK MUSCLE.
