Text Simply So Others Can Simply Text
So I'm walking from office hours to class yesterday, and as I pass through West Mall I spot a girl wearing a shirt that says the following: "Live simply so that others may simply live." It was in the shape of the continent of Africa and it was a nice-looking shirt.
I think we can agree that's a decent enough message, right? Here's my issue: the girl was listening to music on her iPhone. Live simply...except for your super advanced personal technology. Although it may have only been a 4 gig so I shouldn't be too harsh...poor girl, she can't fit all her music on there.
Look, I have an iPhone. I have other non-simple things in my life that I don't need. If I were a better person I would give up some of those luxuries and donate the saved money to others. But I will never wear a t-shirt that says "Don't Be a Jerk and Think of All the Starving People in Africa Who are Hungry and Starving" while I'm wolfing down a Big Box from Taco Bell. If I ever eat a Big Box I do it in privacy.
