First, I apologize for changing the name of the rating system every year. Second, I apologize for thinking anyone cares.

I am happy that the college football powers have decided to go to a 4 team playoff. It’s a step forward. A very small step forward, but the first step is the hardest. It’s a foot in the door. One foot in front of the other. Wait until the other shoe drops. More shoe/foot-based clichés. I am looking forward to that first 4-team playoff, and I’ll keep hoping that 8 teams happens in my lifetime. I believe it’s fair, given the number of teams (125) and the number of regular season games for each team (12).

I don’t think there’s a need to rank teams during the first month of the season. Now that we’re in October, here are my first AccuDrew ratings for 2012:

Again, we’re early in the season. Once we get into a heavy schedule of conference games, some teams will start to separate themselves. If you don’t like that your SEC team isn’t ranked first (I’m looking at you, Alabama fans), just wait until they play a few more games and I’m sure they’ll be there. Big weeks for Florida, South Carolina, Texas, ND, Miami, Georgia, LSU, and West Virginia. Four of those teams will make a big jump into the top 5 next week, and 4 of them will drop a little.
